Update: no paddle planned for Friday July 20
We had a paddle for Friday July 20th scheduled for Raspberry Island. I won't be able to go, but I'll email the usual paddlers and see if they want to paddle, and if so, where. I'll post an update here and send out an email once I hear back. The waves are predicted to be 1-3 ft tomorrow; NE winds 5-10 knots; chance of showers. Cheers, Nancy
We are an informal group of paddlers who kayak each week along Lake Superior on Friday mornings, 10 am. For the safety of everyone in the group, paddlers who join us on the Lake Superior trips must wear a PFD (with whistle), wetsuit (or drysuit or hydroskin, depending on the water temps), and must know how to do a rescue and re-entry.

To celebrate the 4th, on July 6th we'll launch at Bark Pt. boat landing at 10 am, then head south along the bay's coast until we get to the long, lovely beach on the outside of Bark Bay spit. June 15th paddle: Roman's Pt, 10 am: CANCELLED because of thunder
Update: alas, it's still thundering at 9 am, so Mike and I agreed it would be best to cancel this morning's paddle. Have a great week!
Mike will update everyone on next week's paddle, which is currently scheduled for the crossing to Long Island. Meet at Friendly Valley (next to the Sioux River) beach north of Washburn.
Right now, the forecast is predicting clouds, not thunderstorms, at 10 am tomorrow morning (June 15th). Our scheduled paddle is for Roman's Pt, and that's easy to modify if condition get bad. (We can paddle along the beach instead of around the point and practice our rough water skills in a safe place; or we can paddle inside Lost Creek slough and look for otters--and if worse comes to worse, we can go to my cabin on Roman's Pt and have a cup of coffee). So I'll be down at the end of Lost Creek Rd at 10 am, ready for paddling, unless I hear thunder. Hope to see you there!
I'll be away the following week for the Long Island paddle, but I'm sure others will be enthusiastic about that great crossing.
Roman's Pt: meet at the end of Lost Creek Rd; park on the left side of the road.

2018 summer schedule!
-->
An
informal paddling group that meets Fridays at 10 am. We paddle on Lake Superior,
so anyone who joins us must wear a sprayskirt, a pfd with a whistle, and
clothing for immersion in the cold water: a wetsuit or hydroskin. Recreational
boats (ie, short and no sprayskirt) are welcome only on the slough trips or on
the inland lakes. You should also have
practiced the T-rescue and self-rescue within the past year. We are happy to
practice rescues with you if you want a refresher, and we’re happy to schedule
rescue practices and kayak roll coaching on request (either at Long Lake, Hoist
Lake, or Lost Creek, which is not as warm but much closer to most of us).
At least one person on each trip will always have a marine VHF
and GPS, and we’ll change the destination to a slough or inland lake if a small
craft advisory is predicted, or the waves are greater than 1 to 3 ft.
SCHEDULE (always subject to the waves and weather! Call or text Nancy
at 608-852-6031 for the most recent updates).
