We are an informal group of paddlers who kayak each week along Lake Superior on Friday mornings, 10 am. For the safety of everyone in the group, paddlers who join us on the Lake Superior trips must wear a PFD (with whistle), wetsuit (or drysuit or hydroskin, depending on the water temps), and must know how to do a rescue and re-entry.

Directions to Long Lake
Here are some directions to Long Lake, where we do rescue practice, etc.
From Cornucopia. You can go about 11 miles on Highway C to Forest Road 697, just past Valhalla, (the intersection isn't marked, but it is the first road after Valhalla) and turn right (south) and go about 4 miles until you get to Forest Road 251 (aka Long Lake Road aka Wannabo Road), turn right (west) and go about a mile to Long Lake. Note that this route is hilly and sometimes sandy but beautiful. Alternatively, my quicker preferred route is to go about 9 miles on C from Cornucopia to Forest Road 252 and then turn right (south) for about 5-6 miles on a mostly gravel road until you hit Forest Road 251 (aka Long Lake Road aka Wannabo Road), and then turn left (east) and proceed a mile or so to Long Lake.
Upon reaching Long Lake and passing the pay station (yes, we do have to pay for usage), turn right and follow the narrow road for about a mile to the other end of the lake.
From Washburn. Go south on Highway 13 for about a mile until you hit Wannabo Road (aka Long Lake Road aka (ultimately) Forest Road 251. Turn right (west) and go about 6 mi to Long Lake.
